Winter Is Coming - Try This Tasty “Lose The Winter Blues” Oatmeal Bowl Recipe

Alright y’all there’s no escaping the fact that Winter is fast approaching so lets just accept it now and beat those seasonal mood swings with a delicious new recipe!

The glowing mother to be and chef, Molly (@mollysbest) has created a yummy “Lose the winter blues” oatmeal bowl incorporating @lovewellnessco #mood pills and it’s actually insane! She had me sold at cacao nibs but there are a few other nutritious ingredients your new favorite breakfast (or really anytime of day) option contains that makes it a quick and hassle free meal.

Included in this oatmeal bowl are oats,(obvi) chia seeds, almond butter, brazil nuts and cacao nibs. All of these ingredients are loaded with nutrients, making this the perfect way to start your day no matter what the temp is outside! Check out the amazing benefits each one of them has below :

Oats- High fiber grains like oats help keep your blood sugar stable regulating brain neurotransmitter secretions to keep your mood even and stable. When your blood sugar is quickly spiking and dropping, your mood can feel like a roller coaster as well (think that high and dramatic low after eating a lot of sugar.)

Nut butter- In order to stay fuller for longer and avoid energy and mood drops (ie #hanger) add a tbsp of natural nut butter to add protein along with healthy fats.

Brazil nuts- Did you know that one single brazil nut has twice the RDA of the mineral selenium? Low levels of selenium are correlated with more anxiety, depression and fatigue. There was also a study in Canada on 475 pregnant women and they found that selenium supplementation during pregnancy decreased the risk of postpartum depression! So brazil nuts are a great snack to pack in your bag along with your daily #mood pills.

Cacao- If adding chocolate to your breakfast doesn't put you in a good mood, I don't know what will! But there is also science behind why we gravitate towards chocolate when we are in love or going through a breakup. It is also a rich source of PEA, a hormone like substance that functions as a neurotransmitter in the body that releases a similar feeling to being in love which is why it’s referred to as the "love drug". Cacao also has tryptophan which is linked to increased serotonin production, our other feel good hormone.

Remember not all cacao is created equally- opt for fair tried organic cacao nibs or cacao powder to really take advantage of the antioxidants and minerals found in high quality sourcing.

Now that you’ve read all about what you’ll be putting into your body, get to the kitchen and start whippin’ up your “Lose The Winter Blues” oatmeal bowl! Just mix in all of the ingredients into your oatmeal and don’t forget to sprinkle 2 #mood pills on top for that extra boost we all need when the weather out is just an all around energy drainer!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1 tbsp Chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp Almond butter
  • 2 Chopped brazil nuts
  • 1 tbsp organic cacao nibs
